Image compositing

Hybrid imagery is a fusion of two or more images being combined into one. These types of photos are created because they are used to express creativity and important messages. Rule of thirds is when the focal point of a photo is in line with the intersection if you split the photo up into thirds vertically and horizontally. Rule of thirds can enhance balance in the photo. Cropping the photo to use rule of thirds can take away from its original quality. I think professional photographers always make sure to use rule of thirds to get the most out of their photo. I don't believe every photo should be edited because their is beauty in the rawness of a photo that is taken away from editing.

The strongest message I plan to communicate is that technology is so advanced that pretty soon almost everything will be possible such as flying cars. I will be using two pictures for my composite image. One of a car and one of the sky. The CAPS I plan on using for the images are eye level and
landscape. I anticipate the audience's eye to go straight to the car because it will be the focal point. It is also unusual and catches peoples eye.

Visual Statement

The topic for my team's visual statement is insensitivity. The message we are trying to share is treating sensitive topics such as depression and terrorism with respect, specifically through humor. The goal of this project is to create an entertaining yet educational 2-3 minute video about our topic. My partners are Emma and Loren. I was assigned as the lead writer and they teamed up to do the editing and photography. Emma and Loren came up with the topic, it is important to me because we should be aware of others feelings and treat everyone with respect.

We got to learn different tips and ticks such as slow mo and audio mixing from this website called final cut pro x. We incorporated audio mixing and cutting techniques to edit our visual statement. It is important to use these resources such as final cut pro properly. When used correctly the production value of your video goes up. Audio levels can change depending on wind and how far you are from the mic, we used final cut pro to soften the audio sometimes. I feel like our video and audio display same level quality. They aren't perfect, but at the same time are very solid works.

My biggest challenge was writing the script for our visual statement. Writing about a topic I did not choose was very difficult, I did not want the script to seem like I just copied and pasted articles. The driving force of the group was Emma and Loren, they are very skilled and have experience in this field so I jut let them do their thing because I trust their skills. The most enjoyable part of this project was recording and making the video. I was very pleased with our critique results, most people agreed that we met the criteria and completed the video at an expert level.

Modern Art Movement

Pop art arose from artists who wanted to take on the challenge of taking pop culture and apply fine arts. Pop art influenced the arts and communication industry through advertising, pop art is a very effective way to advertise because it catches peoples' attention. Artists contribute to culture through their work, for example a mural can give a town culture. Artists fulfill a societal need because they express their opinion and out look through their art even if it is "different". I like pop art because it isn't super complicated to understand.

Andy Warhol created the famous Campbell Soup painting.I think he was just trying to make advertising more effective by doing something different. Yes I think an artist can persuade another person's opinion, because they may have a story through their painting that people can relate to or allow them to have a new outlook. In my opinion, technology has aided and hindered art production at the same time. Paintings look more realistic than ever but with that, you lose that older look and style.

Workplace Safety

The project goal for our team was to create a presentation for the class about a topic in workplace safety, our topic was chemical and material handling. My teammates were Darius, and Lani. We all worked as a team on the notes but I have to give credit for Darius and Lani for doing most of the script. For our presentation Darius and I were the actors and Lani was the narrator. The person that deserves recognition for their effort is Lani. Even though she wasn't the assigned leader, she was the real leader of our group. Lani was the one that introduced the gameplan that we used.
My biggest takeaway from this project is having experience in creating a video presentation. I learned how to properly and safely dispose and work with chemicals. I learned the process to make a video production, its more than just filming. It is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I learned how to use communication to cooperate with teammates I did not really know and produce a workplace safety video. The highest scoring area of our video was relevance of visuals. I agree with this because we had a narrator reading while we were acting, so people got to see an example of what we were talking about. Our Lowest scoring area was clarity of audio, it was a little windy but I thought it was fine. What I would have done differently to make our video better would be to rehearse our scenes more and bring in better props for our video instead of just using what Mr. Sanderl had in his cabinet.

Art and Design

Image from pixabay.com

The elements of art I used in my still life image are line, shape, and texture. I used line and shape to form my hammer and texture for the shadow of the hammer. The brush sized used for texture is very small so it adds more value to the texture pattern. The part of creating my still life image that I enjoyed the most was the outline, it was simple and easy. The part that was challenging to me was the texture because I had to do it twice because I never saved it and it got very annoying.

My landscape image came from pixabay.com. My landscape and still life image have similarities and differences. A similarity they have is use of texture. A difference is I didn't have to edit shape and line for my landscape like I did for the still life. I did the basic line drawing tutorial easily but had trouble with the more advanced techniques, I ended up getting help and things turned out alright. The technique I used somewhat made the image look like a pencil drawing, I should have used a better image to make the pencil drawing effect more believable

I got my portrait photo from stockvault.net. I do not know where it was taken but it does say the picture is of a man named "toothless Lue". I did not use a picture of someone I know so it doesn't mean anything to me. This image uses all elements of art. I used line to help with my outline side. While creating my outline I developed shape in my image. There is value from the lighter and darker brush strokes from the pencil drawing side. The image is very close up of his face but there is still some space in the corners. Texture patterns and backgrounds obviously were used to add texture. And the part of the image that was unedited contains color. After getting my results I am surprised that I got decent scores. I have never used photoshop before this class. I agree with my scores especially my still life, my still life is amateur because I had to restart, I forgot to save it the first time.

Audio Production

A good way to keep an audience interested is to use intonation and inflection. Intonation means to have a rise and a fall in your voice when speaking, inflection means to add mood or emphasis to your words. My main role in this assignment was being the team leader. I also was the audio technician because I was the only one in the group that couldn't speak. These jobs required me to get the group document set up and organize what questions everyone would answer, I had to make sure that things went smoothly while we were recording. The rehearsal is super important because reading the script in one take is a lot harder than you think. It took my team at least ten tries before we go through our whole script in one take. So I strongly suggest you practice a lot.
My team's results from the critique are solid in my opinion. Our scores were not perfect but they were good (2.5/3). I think our team did a good job communicating our message about career academies and stuff, we tried to keep the audience engaged by using intonation and inflection. Our main obstacle was recording our script in one take, we just had to keep trying until we got it right. Another obstacle that I faced was trying to embed the audio file in my blog, luckily my teammates helped me out. If I had to do this project again a way that we could improve would be finishing our questions earlier so we had more time to rehearse and record our script.

Proprietary Information

Photo By Chris Sanderl, Kapaa Media Blog

Copyright infringement takes place when someone uses a copyright protected work without permission of the owner. The legal consequences of using these works without permission include a fee from $200- $150,000.Pay for all court and attorney costs, and you could go to jail. You can get permission to use copyrighted works by contacting the owner and working out a deal. Fair use is copying/using a copyrighted work for a certain purpose such as teaching, and criticism without needing the permission from the owner. An example of fair use is quoting a line from a movie in a movie review. Another example could be a teacher copying information from a blog and using it in a lesson.

The word confidentiality means to keep secret or private. 3 things that you should keep private is your credit card information, birthday, and social security number. People share information that they should keep confidential on social media. Such as their birthdays, phone number, and location. It is best if you do not share this information to the public. I like the way censorship is in the U.S because you have choice as to what you want to say and do and you take responsibility for your actions. My stance on censorship relates to the first and fifth amendment because I agree that people should have freedom of speech and rights to privacy.
